city dogs 6: Lucky.

Two thin girls rounded fifth street as Pilgrim and I reached the attached sixth avenue.

"May I pet your dog? Here stay here," she dropped her dog's leash on a fence.

"Sure. Is your dog friendly?"

"Sometimes. Can I pick your dog up?" Her eyelashes were long and she had a stripe of vibrant blue on her lids. Pretty, sweet and curious she admitted, "I don't really know how to hold dogs."

"He's easy going. What's your dog's name?"

"That's Lucky. We got him at Hearts and Homes."

"Is that a shelter in Brooklyn?"

"Yea, pretty close to here."

"Did you get him as a puppy?"

"Six months old...He has his own chair. Well, it was my mother's chair, but all his fur got on it. Now she doesn't want it, so its Lucky's chair."
