(this is sweet)

“Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. ‘Pooh?’ he whispered.

‘Yes, Piglet?’ ‘Nothing,’ said Piglet, taking Pooh’s hand.

‘I just wanted to be sure of you.’ ”

Sixto Rodriguez

Presently stuck on the West Coast. Nightmare details for the flights I managed to book home. As I sipped a margarita at Commuter Comforters-Pier 52 Seattle waiting for my boat back to the Island (sigh), Sixto Rodriguez came on the speakers.

Track 1 to my morning

Going on holiday tomorrow! Whilst moaning over the pile of work before me (and procrastinating with this blog post), the following suggestion has been made:

"I have a tip. 1. Put on Eye of the Tiger. 2. Straighten your left arm. 3. Place arm on left side of desk. 4. Sweep arm from left to right. Problem solved."

Segue to Pandora (which I've got tweeked just right). Track 1...

Getting past the epic background image (the tiger really pulls it together! white gloves? done deal!) to We Are the People by Empire of the Sun...doesn't the vibe feel just right?

Pushing through! And looking forward to sharing the Pacific Northwest with you next week with photos and venue reviews!

I'm gonna leave ya now.
x.

Keg No. 229

From the people who opened the very sexy Bin No. 220, there's a new kid on the block. Keg No. 229 recently opened its doors, taking ownership on the space once occupied by Onda. Housed in a 200 year-old building with the original exposed brick, the space maintains charm and four reclaimed wood tables.

Boasting American craft brews (ten on draft, thirty in bottles) and Southern comfort food, the venue is a welcome addition to the South Street Seaport. We opened our meal with a steamed artichoke: straightforward and well matched to the lemon aioli dipping sauce. Following, we had a 'twice baked potato,' which should have been described otherwise as it came in the form of deep fried balls with chive garnished sour cream for dunking. Decent, but nothing to write home about.

For our third sharing plate, the corn on the cob. Dipped in a light creamy cheese sauce and rolled in paprika, the corn is designed to be consumed with beer. My partner found it to be good, but not up to snuff (he insisted Cafe Habana has the best in the city).

Drum roll....the pigs in a blanket. Delicious and savory, these little guys are wrapped in pitch-perfect light pastry and served with yellow mustard. I'm definitely looking forward to stumbling in again with a slight beer buzz to nosh on more of these plates!

Let it Dough!

Do you remember the New York in Legos series by Berlin-based Christoph Niemann? Well, he's at it again, with cookie dough! Let it dough!

Pendelton Woolen Mills

I've always harbored an affection for the classic striped Pendelton Woolen Mills blanket. Apparently, there is a travel mug to fulfill your craving for the functionable design and preppy-chic style.

Check out this fantastic new blog: I Want to Be Her! Andrea Linett, a former creative director of Lucky magazine, stops fashionable New York women on the street to ask them about their style. She uses the style tips she collects to illustrate the ladies and highlight where you can find the pieces.
