Last Kisses Before Wartime

From the LIFE archives, photographer Alfred Eisenstaedt captured the emotions of lovers kissing in 1943 at Penn Station before heading out to war. Isn't the melancholic passion stunning? (Read more, see more).

Potato Chips

I have a serious weakness for funky potato chip flavor varieties found across the globe. I know, I know, "gross." Lay's recently introduced three new flavors: Sriracha, Cheesy Garlic Bread and Chicken & Waffles. There are two outstanding curiosities on my mind: Where can I purchase these? What kind of wine does each bag pair with? More importantly, Lay's is considering each of these three for a permanent place in their line-up. Who will take the crown? Further details at the New York Post.

Strapless Scuba Dress

As a pre-teen, I used to sneak into Fredrick's of Hollywood with my girlfriends and giggle at the cheap, trashy lingerie. Alas, I've grown up and find myself a bit surprised by how much I adore this strapless scuba dress from the shop. Wouldn't it be perfect to slip on and be a valentine to the one you adore?

Polar Bare

Can we discuss Kate Upton's second Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue cover for a moment? Sure she looks amazing, but more impressive is that she shot in Antarctica (suffered frostbite!) and looked to the adorable penguins in the back drop as inspiration.

“It was the most beautiful place I’ve ever been,’’ she said. “Before I took off my coat, I would just enjoy the views. The mountains were pink and the water was glass. It was like little ice cubes were in the water. It was gorgeous.’’
She also had some inspiration in making it through a difficult shoot.
“The penguins kept me going,’’ she joked. “They’re adorable, and any time I was like, ‘I can’t take any more, I can’t,’ I would look at them and I was like, ‘OK, for them.’’’

Prabal Gurung for Target

Did you check out the Prabal Gurung for Target collection over the weekend? I schlepped out to Brooklyn and found a few cute pieces to brighten up my closet. Cashmere Peacock Scarf

I rarely leave the house without a scarf- even in the summer. A wrap is huge when you step into a well-air conditioned brunch venue! How very lovely is this peacock cashmere piece from Paper Trail? I'd pair it with white shorts, wedges and tunic to meet the girls for libations.

Bahari Necklace

As New York braces for what may be "0 to 38 inches of snow," (Can we take a moment to be amused by this statement?) I can't help but think about warmer weather fashion. I could use a little warmth on my back! From Stella and Dot, this necklace caught my eye with semi-precious dyed jade and ceramic beads. (Purchase here)

a lunch at City Cellar

After hitting up the Lululemon warehouse sale and Target on Long Island (things Manhattan denizens do with excitement comparable to kiddos in candy stores when they have a Zip Car) we decided to pause for a quick bite before heading back to the the city.

By Foursquare suggestion, we found ourselves at City Cellar wine bar. The venue boasts a dramatic dining area with transparent green curtains cascading from vaulted ceilings, an over sized wine fridge as a backdrop to the bar and cozy lighting.

Our server brought us warm rosemary and sea salted bread with whipped sweet cream butter to nibble while we perused the menu options. I wouldn't typically mention the bread, but this was superb with a crusty shell and soft and fresh tasting center.

To share, we opted for the Calamari with garlic-lemon aioli and tomato chile sauce and  the Kobe beef sliders with Wasabi mayo, aged white cheddar and Togarashi. The calamari came fresh and appropriately firm. The aioli more fitting that the tomato-chile sauce, which tasted more of standard marinara. The sliders were quite excellent with their black sesame seed brioche buns and the meat prepared medium rare.

Albeit a bit of a trek from the city, I'd love to return and explore more of the menu. The venue is a fantastic spot for a date or even a girl's night out.
