free foods, midtown

New to Midtown and already a favorite: Free Foods. Think deli without preservatives, stocked with organic, healthy choices. Now throw in a side of unrushed, pleasant cashiers and staff. Sounds a bit off-kilter right? I leaned towards the soups and asked what the chef reccomended, the young man smiled, "This. Pureed squash, peas, green beans and asparagus. Here, try." He handed me a small cup with steaming soup. Delightful, salty in a good way. I asked for a small cup. Vadim selected a chilled chicken breast wrapped in peaches and a savory sweet sauce. I pointed to a crab cake, also chilled in a lettuce boat. Trickled with corn and a creamy, tangy sauce. In a word: amazing.

Free foods also offered Newman's soy crisps, a variety of organic iced teas, small bakery items. A bit more pricey than your typical deli, but well worth it.
