Cabrito: Yes please, and encore.

I fell in love with Cabrito last night. Warm scents, well-tailored service and tacos are the main components of the spot. Although a private party was in play, the hostess managed to square away a table in the back (and one that was in a pleasantly cooler location). We started with a few Jalapeno Margaritas. The juices are squeezed on site and distinctively fresh. A subtle spice presented itself, but was no where near threatening. If anything, a slight tickle in the back of the throat every few sips.

We nibbled on fresh pico de gallo and Guacamole with homemade chips while deciding on our entrees. The server recommended a few specials and advised that 2-3 tacos would be a decent meal. I chose one goat belly taco (their specialty) and an El Pastor: marinated pork with habenero pico de gallo. I switched to the Hot and Dirty Martini for my main course. The cocktail is an expert mix of vodka, pickled jalapeno and olive. I thoroughly enjoy savory cocktails and this combination is spot-on.

My company enjoyed a few goat tacos and tried the Rojas Con Crema: roasted pobalanas and flour tortillas. We both decided that we weren't such a fan of the Rojas Con Crema...a little too heavy and with a slight cheese flavor, it didn't pair well with the rest of the meal. He also sampled the Bee's Knees cocktail- which was good, but a bit sweet after the jalapeno cocktails. It's definitly better at the East Side Bar Company. The tacos were quite fresh, and presentation was excellent. I loved the crumbled cojita cheese on the goat belly and the habenero on the El Pastor was flavorful, but again: didn't burn your tongue and lips.

Beyond the quality of the food, I was satisfied with the pace of the meal. The servers didn't rush us. We sipped and ate over about three hours and stepped out into the gorgeous warmth that is Summer approaching New York City.
