Glossier: The Complete Product Line

Skin care is something that I wish I had paid more attention to before I entered my mid-twenties. I was a Clinique 3-Step system and tanning bed ("For a healthy glow!") girl throughout my teens and college. After moving to New York from the Pacific Northwest, I discovered these things called seasons that weren't all skin-loving, fresh dewy air.  Over the years I became a product junky, determined to discover the best serums, night moisturizers and primers.

When one of my daily reads, Into the Gloss, launched a beauty line, I immediately purchased the Phase 1 Set. And then the limited edition metallic eyeliners. And clearly, when the masks were introduced, I hopped to.

The products are packaged in baby pink bubble mailers and come with branded stickers to personalize your balm, sprays or iPhone, if that's your thing. The bubble mailers have become a travel staple for me. I toss my face mist, under eye masks and other essentials for combating stale airplane air.

Phase 1 Set ($80)
The four-piece system includes Glossier's signature Priming Moisturizer, Balm Dotcom universal skin salve, Perfecting Skin Tint (available in three shades) and the rose-scented Soothing Face Mist.

I find that I reach for the Soothing Face Mist and Balm Dotcom daily, sometimes more frequently. The Soothing Facial Mist multitasks to moisturize my Beauty Blender and Balm Dotcom keeps my lips supple in the below freezing temps (that don't seem to be letting up any time soon).

The Priming Moisturizer is buildable and luscious, but it doesn't have SPF. Lately, I've been relying on primers to provide sun protection while I work my way through my winter staple Caudalie Premiere Cru lotion.

The Skin Perfecting Tint provides extremely light coverage. It's a product I feel that I'll reach for more during humid summers or maybe not at all.  Time will tell.

All items are available for individual sale, which allows you to restock items you use more frequently, or narrow down to what works for you.

Mega Greens Galaxy Pack ($22/ 3oz)
If you drink green juice like I do, you will appreciate this face cocktail which features a powerful team of white kaolin clay, superfruit antioxidants and leafy greens to draw out impurities and decrease inflammation. I'm occasionally guilty of going to bed without washing off my make-up. When I wake up feeling puffy and stressed, I apply the mask and leave it for twenty minutes while I'm making tea and plucking items from my wardrobe. After rinsing, my skin is dewy fresh.

Moisturizing Moon Mask ($22/ 3oz)
The Moisturizing Moon Mask is my new HOLY GRAIL. If I had a storm shelter, I would pack dozens of containers of this mask next to the canned goods. The powerhouse recipe includes sweet almond oil, honey, lemon extract and licorice root to plump skin and restore elasticity. My skin drinks up the opaque cream shamelessly and without abandon. I wipe the slight residue off after 20-30 minutes to reveal a youthful rosy cheeked glow.

Laura Geller + Birchbox Master Class

I've dabbled into the world of Laura Geller in the form of gift with purchase, but hadn't had a proper introduction to the brand until a few weeks ago. Birchbox hosted a master class for a limited number of bloggers in their SoHo brick and mortar shop.

While demonstrating a full-face natural look, the artist from Laura Geller detailed the twenty-plus year history of the brand. The two show stopper products (in my humble opinion) are the baked cosmetic line and the Spackle primers.

Primers are something that only came into my beauty regime in the past five or six years. I tend to gravitate to textures which blend easily and perform beautifully with powder -and- liquid foundations. According to the Laura Geller, Spackle spearheaded the primer industry. The formula is enhanced with Centella Asiatica, aloe and white tea to protect your skin while retaining moisture.

The baked cosmetics are crafted from several pigments and baked over a twenty-four hour period in Italy. The variation in the pigments allows for seamless blending, soft shimmer or matte effects and the ability to contour and highlight from the same pan.

After the master class, I was ushered into a seat for a beauty touch-up. To which I requested something to make me appear luminous (it had been a long day, in many conference rooms). While the pigment was brushed over my features, a woman approached me and introduced herself as Laura. I nearly jumped into her arms with enthusiasm. She hugged me, hung up my coat when it fell from my lap and asked me about my history with her brand.

Laura is incredibly warm, genuine and committed to empowering women with beauty and education. I tend to commit to brands whose philosophy is anchored in connecting with consumers and giving back a greater need. Laura has been honored for by City of Hope for her her support of multiple cancer-focused charities.

Goodies:

Each blogger received a well-lipsticked tote and a Complexion Favorites deluxe sample kit ($20 value/with purchase). The kit features a travel sized brush, Spackle primer and a Baked Balance and Brighten Complexion face powder in the hue Medium.

My take-away:

Spackle under makeup primer ($30/2 oz)

I've been in the market for a new primer (I confess that I have mostly been working with samples from my previous role a beauty-focused company) and decided to snag one from of the limited quality available in the shop.  In a word: heavenly. Spackle spreads evenly, dries quickly and secures makeup smoothly into place. When I reach my last drop, I'm going to repurchase the blend which features SPF. Interim, I ensure to use a moisturizer with sun protection.

Baked Balance-N-Brighten Color Correcting foundation in Fair ($33/0.32oz)

I couldn't resist indulging in the full-sized face powder in Fair.  I'm impressed with the diversity of this pan. I love the varied pigments and felt that coupled with the deluxe sample of the Medium powder, I could achieve a balanced look with subtle highlight and contour. A light application delivers an even toned appearance which is genuinely silky. To boot, the ingredients feature the same anti-aging ingredients in the Spackle primer.

Birchbox + Manna Kadar Cosmetics

Birchbox teamed up with Manna Kadar to host a brand discovery event for the Birchbloggers community. We settled in with DIY bubbly cocktails, mini cupcakes from Prohibition Bakery and swapping of social media handles.

***

After building a line of cosmetic shops (and deciding to sell them), Manna was hungry to build a cosmetic line with nourishing and long lasting properties. Although  Sheer Glo is arguably the ingenue of her brand, the products extend to lips, face, eyes and skin care.

Manna transformed the model into a #Mannababe  with an eye and lip look from her Star Gazing palette and Lip Locked gloss line.  The products apply with an understated, yet steadily deepening pigmentation. Manna's execution was playful, seemingly not calculated. In other words, this is a product line designed for a girl in a rush. A girl that loves to sleep in, hit the gym and only has a few minutes to get ready for work.

Manna is a true hustler. She mentioned that she arrived at the SoHo venue straight from the airport and hadn't touched her make-up since dashing to the airport from her LA home. Do the math. We're talking 10 hours between the cars, airplane and New York.  Her products were built for women like herself.  Her flawless appearance coupled with her humble nature is a powerful combination in any industry.

Cheers with Manna, A Sequin Love Affair (left) and myself (right).

The goody bag:

I spent about a month with the products before coming to this post. I wanted to get a genuine feel for performance on marathon days, windy days and slush falling from the sky days.

Star Gazing contains five neutral shades in gold, brown and rose. The high shimmer formula applies subtly, but increases pigmentation with a second swipe (above swatches are two layers of product). If you're a matte lover, this may not be your thing, but who doesn't love a little sparkle in life? Of all the combinations available on Manna's site, this is absolutely the palette  I would have chosen to invest in.

Sheer Glo ($29)
The deluxe sample we received will likely last me about 3-4 months (maybe longer). A teeny tiny amount goes far. I love blending a small dab above my cheekbones, Cupid's bow and below my brows.

Do you ever feel like every mascara claims to add tremendous volume and length? The thing is, Manna's Intense Lash actually does. In a big way.  With a 2-3 coats, lashes are as full as modest false lashes.
Pro tip: Apply Manna's Lash Primer  to conditions lashes. The primer can also be worn alone when you go to bed as a sleeping mask for your lashes.

(From top: All of Me,  Lucky, Manna Babe)

Each blogger chose their color. I gravitated to Manna Babe, a vibrant fuchsia with subtle sparkle (bottom swatch). The formula is ridiculous. Moisturizing and long-lasting, it feels like velvet on your lips. I've fallen into a deep love with this product and purchased two more as part of an ipsy promotion.

Winter Edit: Lush Finds

The past handful of months have been amazing.  I've been mulling over where to begin with my 2015 posts and found my push after reading my horoscope a la Refinery 29.

***

Flight after flight, coupled with shifts in elevation began taking a toll on my skin. Between hoofing my way up the uneven steps of The Great Wall, going deep underground at the DMZ, being humbled by Mt. Fuji, eating my way through Charleston, family time in Pittsburgh and falling down Killington Mountain (I'm still determined to swap my ski roots for snowboarding), I needed to ramp up my Winter glow strategy.

It's been ages since I last slipped into a Lush Cosmetics shop. I tend to avoid going above 14th St and actively detour from the Herald Square Zoo. I've had a lingering desire to set aside my city routine to check out a few nourishing products featured by a favorite vlogger and took the plunge. Among the haul I surfaced with, two products have become fast favorites:

Popcorn Lip Scrub ($10/0.8oz)
Post shower and pre-balm  application,  I've been using this sweet and salty scrub with a few drops of water and a cotton pad to gently exfoliate chapped lips. My product began to dry out a bit, but was easily brought back to life with a few drops of coconut oil mixed in.

Rose Jam Shower Gel ($30/8.4oz)
Rose garden, lemon leaves and vanilla come together in an unlikely cocktail laced with Argan oil. I honestly couldn't have pulled together those elements without reading the bottle. It's a heavenly balance of tart, sweet and slightly spicy notes. The scent lingers in the bathroom for hours and leaves your skin supple. Unfortunately, Rose Jam is a Limited Edition product. I'm cautiously optimistic is will be on shelves again in the future. It's the perfect pre-curser to Ro's Argan Conditioner.

Discoveries: August GLOSSYBOX

Disclosure: I work at GLOSSYBOX.

GLOSSYBOX marked their 3rd Birthday with a new box design and six beauty essentials! Technically, the shampoo & conditioner are presented as one item, but it feels like two to me.

Included in my box:

Kryolan for GLOSSYBOX Highlighter in Cashmere | Full Size $18.95 Included!
If a highlighter isn't in your make-up regimen, I would highly recommend jumping on the bandwagon. Your cheekbones will thank you! Kryolan features a multipurpose formula for use on cheekbones, eyes and lips. The product applies sheer and can be built-up for more dramatic looks.

Lamoon Beauty Precision Nail Lacquer in Trillion Dollar Red | Full Size $5.95  Included!
My nail lacquer collection is a bit out of control, but I will always welcome a versatile red into my home. Lamoon is eco-friendly, 4 free and cruelty free and dries with a high shine.

Eyeko London Skinny Liquid Eyeliner in Black | Full Size $16
A fav of Alexa Chung, this skinny eyeliner glides with light pigmentation. I'm on the fence with my feelings.  It's easy to use, but doesn't wow me. I prefer creamy pencils to liquid.

Uberliss Hydrating Shampoo & Conditioner | Full Size $23.90 & $25.90
With  royal jelly, blueberry, apple, sugar cane, green tea, lemon peel and keratin, this dynamic duo smells amazing and nourishes your hair into a sleek, sexy mane.

Eslor Firming Collagen Day Cream | Full Size $85
Having sampled Elsor products before, I was thrilled to receive a deluxe sample of the collagen day cream. The hydrating power house contains ginseng extract, hydrolized  marine collagan, avocado, wheat germ and sesame oils. Formulated to apply twice a day, the cream promises to provide anti-aging results.

Discoveries: April GLOSSYBOX

Disclosure: I work at GLOSSYBOX.

I love opening my mailbox to find my monthly GLOSSYBOX waiting for me to dive into! April's box arrived just in time to enjoy the first few warm, sunny days of the season.

Included in the box:

Aqua Spa Relax Body Creme in Lavender + Chamomile | Full Size $10
Crafted from anti-aging Marine Youth Complex, calming lavender and chamomile, I've been reaching for this cream every night to give my feet some love before bed. The formula is tad too thick for legs and arms, but perfect for hands hands and paws. To boot, you can add the creme to your bath for a weekly all over nourishing soak.

Bellapierre Cosmetics Super Gloss in Vanilla Pink | Full Size $24.50 Included!
Jojoba, avocado and sunflower wax come together to nourish your kisser while adding a gorgeous glossy color to your lips. At first glance, I wasn't sure if the dark nude would work for my coloring, but it's absolutely stunning! Perfect for Sunday brunch or the office, it's been living in my purse.

Caldrea Body Wash in Coconut Fig Leaf | Full Size $18
Oh my goodness, this body wash smells so good! I emptied the sample in one shower session and feel a hankering to bring a full size bottle into my life. The formula includes free-radical fighting  angelica root and linden flower extracts to love your skin.

Ciate London Paint Pot in Beach Hut | Full Size $15 Included!
You had me at little black bow. This pretty nail polish proved chip resistant for four days! The auburn glitter with pink undertones applied for soft, glittery look and would be a gorgeous choice for Autumn with a third coat to add richness.

LASplash Cosmetics Eyeshadow Sealer/Base | Full Size $9 Included!
Intended for glitter or shimmer eyeshadows, this dual primer/base intensifies and extends the wear of your pigmentation. A little goes a long way in terms of primer. I'm a little hesitant to use it as a sealer, but have found the formula to increase the pop of my palettes.

Discoveries: Birchbox Free For All Limited Edition Box

I'm a label connoisseur. I -always- check which ingredients I may decide to put in my mouth or on my body. Your body takes you places, it's important to give it the best! I was  excited to learn about Birchbox's most recent limited edition box: Free For All, which is tailored to natural/plant-based products to love your body with.

***

The paraben/gmo/sulfate/petrochemical free box is $44 and includes:

Jurlique | Purely Bright Radiance Serum
Crafted from botanicals in Australia, this ultra gentle serum smells as amazing as your skin feels after applying.  The formula is packed with anti-aging properties that prevent dark spots. Win.

FEED | FEED 10 Pouch
This adorable burlap pouch features a playful blue tassel and just enough room to throw your cash, keys and nail lacquer in when heading to your favorite salon. To boot, you can feel good using it, as FEED products give a donation with purchase to provide nutritious meals to children globally. This pouch provided 10 school lunches to under served kiddos.

Alima Pure | Lip Tint in Rhubarb
Moisturizing organic plant oils and  sheer rose color come together in this balm. I'm not a huge fan of the color for my complexion, ergo, I plan to give it to a gal pal.

Lov Organic | Assorted Teas
The cousin of Kusmi, these detoxing teas are a cut above your grocery varieties. I've been enjoying them before hopping on the treadmill or rolling out my yoga mat.

W3LL PEOPLE | Hypnotist  Eyeliner
Sourced from all natural ingredients, this velvety smooth eyeliner applies effortlessly. I tossed it in my make-up bag at the office, to touch-up before heading to happy hour.

Shamanuti | Activated Charcoal Cleanser
Charcoal masks are my thing, which is why I love this gentle exfoliating cleanser. It feels like mini speedy facial, drawing out impurities while you lather up your skin.

Karma Organic Spa | Nail Polish Remover with Soybean Oil & Tea Tree Oil
Nail polish remover is a necessary thing, albeit smelly and  packed with harsh chemicals. Karma's nontoxic formula is hands down the most exciting product in the limited edition box! I highly recommend this effective alternative.

eco-armour | Shave with Benefits Shave Foam with Mint & Eucalyptus
My first rodeo with this light, foamy product wasn't exactly positive. The dominant eucalyptus scent wasn't for me. Then, oddly, it started to grow on me. I noticed that within days (with my standing in shower, leg propped up method) that I had zero nicks or bumps. The scent is a bit awakening on those groggy mornings and doesn't linger. I'm planning to look into purchasing occasionally, to switch-up my regular rotation. The brand also features a grapefruit and bergamot scent, which I'm curious about!

Discoveries: April Birchbox

Do you love rainy days? Hailing from Seattle, I do have a slight affection for the occasional sprinkling. Birchbox feels me on this, according to their Rainy Days-themed April box. To my fellow New Yorkers, we are heading towards a serious rainy season, which I am embracing by treating myself to a new pair of Hunter wellies.

***
Included in my box:

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Black Eyeliner | Full Size $16
Cynthia Rowley cosmetics have consistently delivered since debuting in the Birchbox shop! This creamy liner glides on seamlessly and exhibits lasting wear.

Klorane Gentle Dry Shampoo with Oak Milk | Full Size $18
Although this brand is award winning and plant-based, I haven't been able to jump on the bandwagon. For my taste, the formula is too aggressive and heavily scented. I'll either pass it on to a friend, or save it for emergencies.

theBalm How 'Bout Them Apples? Cheek & Lip Cream in Pie | Full Size $32
If you appreciate dual-purpose items as much as I do, you will love this cheek and lip stain. The creamy texture applies with enough time to allow you to blend it into your cheeks and build-up the color, if you're seeking an evening look. I actually own the full palette and was excited to get this mini in my favorite shade. It's perfect to toss in my bag!

KIND Snacks Healthy Grains Bar- Maple Pumpkin Seeds with Sea Salt | 15 Count $11.88
I'm obsessed with KIND bars! I actually have a package of this variety in my pantry (and was excited to get a spare).

nyakio Kenyan Coffee Face Polish | Full Size $34
Crafted from traditional  African recipes, this cocktail featuring Kenyan coffee, Jojoba, Lemongrass and Neroli oils gently exfoliates with an awakening scent of cocoa and coffee. My skin is completely in love with this formula! I have already purchased the full sized bottle!

nyakio Body Scrub | Full Size $55
There are so many good things in this scrub! Sugar, avocado oil, Kenyan coffee,  Mongongo oil, shea butter and grape seed oil come together to deliver serious moisturizing benefits while exfoliating. The sample was itty bitty, which I feel didn't give me the chance to appreciate it's quality. To boot, I found the scent to be a bit too syrupy to love.

nyakio Hydrating Face Oil with Kola Nut | Full Size $49
This luscious oil from the African Kola nut calms the skin with added chamomile and hydrates the skin for 12 hours. I'm hooked on the light nutty scent and couldn't resist purchasing a bottle for myself and a few days of use!

Discoveries: April Ipsy Bag

Ipsy has been killing it the last four months that I've been a subscriber! The $10/month Glam Bag has consistently delivered deluxe samples and full-sized products worth mentioning! April's theme, Beauty Rocks, arrived packed with staples for a sultry night on the town or a sexy brunch date.

Included in my Glam Bag:

big sexy hair Root Pump Mousse | Full Size $17.95
I'm new to mousse. It's a product that I've always viewed as a mom product (in fact it in the only hair enhancer that my mother has ever used, to my knowledge, from the beginning of time). I recognize this a little bit silly. If you know my Mum, you're familiar with how low maintenance she is. She was big into perms in the 80's, but no more. Any who. I digress. As instructed, I shook well and massaged a modest amount of the foam into the roots of my damp hair, then blew dry as usual. My fine hair had quite the love affair. The formula produced a modest uptick in  volume and a smooth texture which lasted about four hours.
Bonus: 25% off when you text IPSTER to 33233 & provide and email address.

Elizabeth Mott pop goes the shadow in champagne | Full Size $12.99 Included!
A gorgeous champagne eye shadow is a staple in every vanity. Ideal for the brow-line or as a highlighter on your cheek bones, it's a timeless. Elizabeth Mott's formula applies a bit less "Wow!" than my go-to Mary Lou Manizer,  lending it to office/ day-looks. The staying power is decent, but no match for the Seaport winds in my neighborhood. C'est la vie.
Bonus: 50% off any purchase with promo IPSY POP

dr. brandt microdermabrasion | Full Size $78
Everything I have ever tried from dr. brandt is amazing. This gentle scrub is formulated with pharmaceutical-grade crystals to exfoliate skin, reduce discoloring and leave your face glowing.
Bonus: 20% off full sized microdermabrasion and free gift  with promo MICRO20 (first 10k orders only).

Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Liner in Black Velvet | Full Size $20 Included!
Rich and appropriately dubbed velvet, the 24/7 eye pencil is the Rolls Royce of liners. I had previously invested in the Black Market collection and have been reaching for them over other brands since.
Bonus: Free gift with $35 purchase for promo UDIPSY (while supplies last).

Starlooks Luscious Longwear Lip Pencil in Naked | Full Size $14 Included!
With a matte finish, this kiss-proof formula compliments lipstick gorgeously. I love the on-trend nude color, which is is universally flattering and perfect for weekend brunch!
Bonus: 20% off your purchase with promo IPSY20.

theBalm: How About Them Apples?

I'll start by admitting the Pug was the selling point for theBalm's How 'Bout Them Apples? palette. I'm that girl.  Now that we have this information on the table, I  will share my praise for these amazing multitasking cheek/lip formulas. Well pigmented and build-able, the shades apply gorgeously. I packed this recently for a weekend trip and enjoyed that all my day and evening looks for lips and cheeks were compactly organized in one light-weight palette.Who doesn't enjoy hitting two birds with one stone? Pie, a luminous semi-opaque pink/red is my favorite hue for both cheeks and lips. I view this as a product that all skin tones can glow in. Purchase at Birchbox.

Khroma Honey Pot

Honey is the nectar of the moisturizing gods! Beauty tip: apply a thin layer to face like a masque and rinse off with warm water or use as a lip balm when the thick of Winter sets in! It's a bit messy, which lends me to seek out honey-laced products:

For the non DIY, I discovered a fantastic lip alternative from the Kardashian Beauty line: honey pot lip balm. The product is available in clear shimmer and rose shimmer and delivers the sweet natural scent of honey and moisturizing benefits without the sticky texture. I chose the rose, which applies with a subtle pink flush to my medium-toned lips. The packaging features a twist-open handle, which keeps your manicure from being chipped!

The balm is $8 at Duane Reade,  but it's currently on sale at Ricky's online for $3.75.

I rarely color my lips, but when I do- I seek out coral hues. I took it upon myself to patiently search for the perfect orange-y-pink hue. MAC's Vegas Volt caught my attention a few weeks ago with its vibrant cream. It's incredibly flattering and carries you from office to happy hour. Purchase at Mac Cosmetics dot com.
