take cocktails at Olives

Wrapped inside the W Hotel in Union Square, Olives is an extension of Todd English's chef talent. With vaulted ceilings, slate walls and a handful of tables peering from behind gauze curtains, the spot is a bit sexy for brunch hour. Regardless, we settled into the bar and disappointed the server with our decline for brunch. The cocktail list is quite tempting with food-focused ingredients such as a martini with blue cheese stuffed olives.

I chose the Notorious F.I.G.; photographed above, the soft pink libation is a marriage of rum, Lillet, fig and rosemary. The rum is present, but certainly not dominate. A gorgeous little cocktail well matched to the summer sweater. I'd interested to try the dinner menu, which is spiked with truffles and foie gras.
