Perch, Park Slope

Now that Perch has put the kibosh on their 'cash only' currency, I have been through their doors more often. Frothy machiatto's and moist red velvet cake with cream cheese frosting! Hearty, detail-oriented sandwiches and satisfying brunch, seven days a week.
Although the service is consistently sub-par, go in good company and take no mind. Among my favorites: the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich. Perch kicks it up with caramelized onions, jalapenos, sharp cheddar and thick-cut bacon. The hummus ratatouille is great for sharing- a mountain of homemade hummus, roasted veggies and grilled focaccia. If you like Cobb salads, this is a beauty. Grilled chicken, mescalin greens, crumbled blue cheese. The presentation and quality of the meals will impress you when you consider the tiny 'kitchen,' adjacent the bar. A sandwich press and microwave (gross, I know) are the two main tools.

Perch attracts large crowds of Park Slope mums. While sipping my Boylan's soda this afternoon, six mothers walked in with newborns and settled on the red couches. Others were seated in the garden with their six-dollar smoothies and wasabi tuna sandwiches. The wine and beer lists rotate and there are occasional drink specials worth trying: the apple pie or cherry tarte, which truth be told, taste to the desserts rather than alcohol.
