Everlane Secret Garden

By private-invite, myself and my husband attended Everlane's Secret Garden viewing of the new Petra Collection in New York. The closed-lip Manhattan venue is revealed the day before your reserved hour.

We tucked ourselves into a cab on Sunday evening and entered a shop. The gentleman at the door confirmed our names on the list and handed us each an Everlane card case with cards detailing the featured cocktails from Brooklyn bar The Exely.

Space heaters, plants, books and trinkets peppered the tiny space. A glass island centered the room with a display of Everlane wallets.

We trailed over to the bar and investigated our cards to decided on which cocktail suited our flavor. "You can try both," promised the bar keep.

And we did.

Albeit chilly inside the Secret Garden, the libations warmed our cores and the conversations with Everlane staffers and fellow patrons were laced with laughter.

the delancey

Entering The Delancey, I pulled back. Nearly pitch black, I adjusted after floating around the Lower East Side. I pulled back to Alvarez, "I don--" and stopped myself. Roll with it. The velvet modern seats, a few candles and bartenders that didn't seem surprised to see us, although we were the only ones in there.

He lead me upstairs into a scene on par with restaurants I'd been to in Mexico: a little heaven in the urban sprawl. The contrast is so dramatic, that in that moment I found pausing to take it in. We settled into a bench and sipped on Makers Mark.

I would be interested to see how the scene shapes as the evening pans out. It looks to have the potential to get packed, but the online reviews aren't in their favor.

Before London: Epicerie Café Charbon

In celebration of Mel and Spencer snagging a great flat and jobs in London, we met at Epicerie Café Charbon on the Lower East Side for drinks, conversation and dancing.

New York Magazine reviewed the hot spot as: "...an elaborately concealed restaurant and bar posing convincingly as a contiguous crèmerie (dairy), tabac (newsstand), and épicerie (grocery store)—a virtual Main Street from pre-supermarket France, transported intact to the Lower East Side." Fairly accurate, I'd have to say- although they forgot to mention the DJ- that hasn't updated his playlist since say: 1992. The servers donned LES tees and tended to exhibit more pronounced attitudes the closer to the bar that they worked. Not to mention the token server who raised his hands in the air and began to dance alone in a valiant attempt to get the stagger crew to dance as well.

The beers were cheap! Five singles for bottles and tap (even the goodies, like: Leffe Blonde!) and the night progressed nicely. As the moments passed, the beer was sloshed and the tables were moved: more people danced.

A lovely evening, although I'm excited for Mel and Spencer (and a new reason to visit London!) NYC will miss them dearly. Thank goodness for the excessive number of cabs available outside Epicerie's doors- it was a bone chilling slap of a night.
