Clever Things from Kawaiii

Mother's Day is coming- I'm thinking of picking up goodies from around the city that are quintessentially New York and packing them in a box with brown packing paper and this Manhattan Subway Tape.

I've got stacks of polaroids in Maker's Mark holiday gift bags. Perhaps I should invest in one of these clever SSBA Photo Boxes?

Prospective: Polaroid

Polaroid photographers had good news last year when Urban Outfitters teamed up with the Impossible Project to restart the production of Polaroid film. Sad news today: project officials sent out a cryptic email saying the effort hit a snag.

I only have one photo left in my camera. It's been there for months. I can't bring myself to snap it. Amazon's supply has dwindled pushing prices up to unsettling tags. God Speed, Polaroid.

8:22am, a polaroid

Typically: the light is soft, warm. The sun peaked into Grand Central today- reached out over the people. Although I found myself in a foggy confusion of fatigue as I rose from below ground, I immediately opened up to the scene. I cannot wait to upload the digital series that I took before I snapping this quick Polaroid.

Things I'd like to buy with my tax return...

I filed my taxes tonight. I am content with my federal return, disappointed in my New York State and City taxes, as I owe a small sum....Ironically, it's smaller than the fee that H & R Block charged me to file.

Lose/Lose.
Such is life.

Any who, thought I'd daydream a bit about the pleasures I would partake in, if I wasn't using my Federal return to pay off my credit card.

(Oh to be young in NYC!) I miss disposable income...

A few things I'd like:

...because it wouldn't be enough to vacation in Southern France and taste wines...I'd purchase a few bottles of Grand Cru, perhaps some bubbly, from the New York Wine Co. A few for the rack and some to open with friends. There would be fromage offered too.

I'd fill my fridge with as much Polaroid film
....as I could possibly find and fit into my fridge.

The Quilted Stam Bag by Marc Jacobs.

Bird and Cloud salt/pepper shakers from Destination: Seoul.
Ceramic, Made in Korea.
A MoMa exclusive that would add a softness to the dinner table...

Nelson Swag Desk, 1958 design.
Colorful cubbyholes and one 15" slot for my MacBook.
From the MoMa Store.

fairfield>>>grand central

I commuted from Fairfield this morning: something that is 1. savage as I need to wake up two hours earlier and 2. somewhat lovely as sleeping on the train is comforting. The buzz, the whirl. Warm in your jacket. The key is to get on the express so that the train isn't making stops that jolt you awake with additional movement and gusts of cold air.

Upon arrival I gathered up my things and emerged into the honey glow of Grand Central. I love the convergence of all voices and sounds into one muffled mess. The peculiar smell and vaulted ceilings. Folks heading to work, to school. Home. Tourists stuttering the movement to take photos. You feel important as you shuffle through- towards your next destination. I stopped to take a Polaroid.

friday polaroid: in an empire state

Today's Polaroid is inspired by New York magazine's 2008 Reasons to Love New York. Number 25: "Because Just When You Take the Empire State Building for Granted, It Seduces You Again." Read the full synopsis and others here.
