chipped.

After my first meeting in Midtown, I decided to walk to my second in Union Square. A cappuccino warmed my belly, a black and white cookie balanced the bitter quality of the coffee. I carefully negotiated my leather gloves over my fresh manicure.

Avoiding the mess of Broadway- I took Fifth Avenue, looping through the streets, considering an Irish Brogue in my path, "Just lettin' the time pass."  I took stock of  the street vendors hovering over smoking gyro and hot dog carts. Scarves secured around the bottom halves of their faces- and checked the time on my watch as woman argued with a man over a giant pretzel, "It's hard! I'm not buying that." He shook his head, then pulled out another. She nodded. 3:42pm.

The Obama influence; Kenyan Maternity Wards

As reported in BBC and Africa News online, more than half of babies born in the Kisumu Hospital yesterday were named after president elect Barrack Obama, or his wife Michelle. The Kisumu Village is adjacent to the birthplace of Obama's father. The naming trend extended to the Nyanza Pronvincial hospital where five baby born were named Obama. One mother gave birth to twins, naming them after Obama and the new First Lady, respectfully. To view the complete report, navigate here.

fashion forward, Michelle Obama on Election Night

It's OK. Don't be ashamed. I did it too: pulled my focus from electoral victories to consider Michelle Obama's dynamite choice of frock from:

Narciso Rodriguez's Spring 2009 collection.

Seen on the runway only eight weeks ago, this piece hasn't even hit the rack yet! Special arrangements? Step aside Carla Bruni, there's a new lady in town. If you'd like further details, navigate here.

good news, good vibes.

It happened last night: mobs swarmed Times Square, people danced on cabs in Ft. Greene. Cheers and the pops of fireworks pushed through the windows in my apartment into the wee hours ... People banged pots and pans while chanting "O-BAM-A" in Union Square. My neighbor declared that he would not move to Cuba as he carried empty Corona bottles to the recycling bins. The Daily Intel reported that two cars has been set on fire...

election day in the Slope!

Contributing to history. NYC vote. A 2.5 hour wait.

Scrapbook inserted.

A comfortable 59 degrees defined the climate today. I attempted to vote early this morning, and had to throw in the towel- as the situation was comparable to the bread line in Communist Era Russia- and I had two meetings in Manhattan. Upon return to the Slope, I met up with Vadim to do our part in defining history. We walked to our poll location: a yellowing middle school that rested a few blocks away. True Brooklyn accents snaked around the gymnasium, a few cops lazed in a corner. A neighbor waved from his place behind us in line.

After completing our task, we rewarded ourselves with Indian food from Kinara. I don't often choose this particular restaurant, but on occasion it seems right. The service is excellent, the food has its strong points: appropriately spiced, balanced and owns a certain level of complexity. The Chicken Masala is buttery and well matched with the Saffron Rice and Vegetable Samosas. Have a Taj Mahal while you're there. You deserve it.

Kinara is usually pretty empty, but don't let that turn you away. If you're around during lunch- they offer 50% off eat-in specials.

South Slope, 473 Fifth Avenue at 11th Street. See the NY Mag review here.

fake louis, mickey d's soda.

As reported by The Cut, Sarah Palin’s daughter has been caught with a faux designer bag. The incrementing detail is the LV logo is hitting the seam on the bottom of the bag instead of being centered on that panel where a symbol is). From a financial standpoint, it’s a good purchase for a child that will grow out of the trend- But let’s consider the larger issue: damage to Palins reputation for purchasing a bag that is manufactured by a counterfeit ring- an industry that notoriously implements child labor and drug trafficking into their business ethics. Go Sarah!

notes on economy, politics

Recent polls have been popping up and ping-ponging about: on whether or not the American public feels that Sarah Palin would be able to take part in running the country. Last weekend I came across an online vote via PBS that was sitting at 49% yes, 49% no (....).
---
When asked, Christie Brinkley offered her own thoughts, " I don't believe that skinning a mouse has ever been a requirement for running our country. Although if she ends up running our country, we will all need to learn how to skin a moose, with the way our economy is going."

young denizens, wine & politics.

Bottlerocket Wines exhibits a lovely splendor with tastings, classes and wines tailored to specific needs. The vibrant shop exhibits an energy with its light wood shelves and warmly lit citron walls. Each rack is labeled: are you having poultry, meat or...take out?

The shop also features a gifts section. Although other shops make recommendations, few clearly label and divide their bottles in such a clear, devoted way.

Talented young bakers Sophia & Claire organized a bake sale with their friends to raise money for the Obama campaign this past weekend.

god help us.

The 22 September New York features a blip about the terrors of Palin and how she could assist in another four years of Republican leadership: Walmart moms. Think about it. This is a very real threat. Trivia! How many times can Palin sandwich her key phrase, "hell-bent" in one two minute blip?
