Cowgirl Seahorse- South Street Seaport

Given that the Fall weather hasn't set in, pitchers of margaritas seemed worthy for a Saturday night. Our large group crowded several small tables pushed together at Cowgirl Seahorse. The venue hosts a marriage of nautical and Southwestern decor- in a delightfully garish presentation. Our sassy (come now, think of the gratuity you're going to get) waitress brought us mason jars equipped with straws and plastic cocktail stir sticks with helms to dump our cocktails in.

Below the chandeliers made from antlers, we dipped our thoughts in the Southern comfort food menu. To start, we shared the Rattlesnake Bites: jalapenos stuffed with shrimp, wrapped in bacon and roasted. A bit of kick, they were cooled by ranch dipping sauce.

For our mains, we shared: massive stacks of ribs, pulled pork nachos and fish tacos. Others ordered enchiladas, corn dogs and hush puppies with macaroni and cheese. Though the fish tacos dressed to impress with coleslaw, mango coulis, jalapeno tartar and fried capers- they weren't as flavorful as you'd expect. The nachos came in a massive portion with guacamole, black beans, salsa, and sour cream. The homemade chips certainly added to the quality of the dish, but the pulled pork was a bit dry (perhaps it could have been improved if it was tossed on last with the cool sour cream and guacamole?
