an evening at Birdland

Getting through the nervy mess that is Times Square, I motioned to Birdland in Hell's Kitchen. The over sixty year-old venue hosts a wealth of live Jazz performers nightly- with covers ranging from $10-$40 ( for center seating). The space is decorated with photos of performers framed uniformly in a sensual amber light. Although the menu offers a variety of Southern inspired foods such as Pulled Pork Po Boys and Cajun Corn, we selected a simple cheese plate with market fruit to accompany our wine. Quite generous in presentation, the plate hosted brie, gouda, asiago, grapes, apple and crisp pears.

The host offered spot on service with a slight panache. I would certainly recommend this experience over other popular jazz clubs such as Blue Note.
