Colored Flame Birthday Candles

Being an April Fools babe,  I grew up with those candles that do not blow out, no matter how hard you huff and puff. I would have much rather had these colored flame candles! Alas, those trick candles were character building:) If you're not looking to build character, purchase these at the MoMa Store.

Best Birthday Card Ever.

Stick it over the birthday guy/gal's favorite fifth and you're golden. The card has a pop-out piece which can be folded into a shot glass. Birthday shopping just got easier.
Check it out/purchase at Food Beast.

State of Liberty: 125 Years

Tomorrow is the 125th birthday of the Statue of Liberty. I may do my morning run down in Battery Park, to give her a nod.

Interestingly enough, during the 1886 celebration of her unveiling, she was wrapped in a massive, wet French flag. Newspapers described the event as full of mystery and eeriness, "[T]he nearest of the men-of-war could be seen floating like phantoms on what might either have been fog or water so far as the eye could see."

Given the era, it comes as no surprise that although the celebration is for massive feminine statue, less than one dozen of the 2500 guests were women!

black bear lodge: buck hunter & buckets of pbr

Having spent the majority of my rearing in the outdoorsy Pacific Northwest and Northern California: backpacking, skiing and in open water, Black Bear Lodge seemed a kind nod to a birthday celebration.

The bar is a hot mess of Buck Hunter, buckets of PBR and Rolling Rock.
I
'd recommend getting there early for happy hour. Icy buckets of beer (five total) are $10. It's cheap beer, but let's be honest, in this city: you can and will be charged $8 for a PBR, more if you're in the Meatpacking district.

On the charming decor: recklessly stained cushions, antlers and skis. And then there was the jarring smell: a combination of stale beer and urine; but you get used to it after a few drinks...and it makes for ice breaking conversation.

(Many thanks to all of those who made it out to the lodge for my birthday<3)

(And even more so, thank you for keeping it interesting with the drunk Twittering).
