Dim Sum Go Go

We decided to walk up Water Street, rather than Broadway- a decision which signaled Dim Sum- over traditional brunch. Dim Sum Go Go has a decidedly Americanized name- a detail which is a bit deceiving, as the Dim Sum served is traditional Cantonese style. The servers were no-nonsense and overly protective of the sawed-pencils we used to mark our selections.

Jasmine tea was dropped on our table, which had already been equipped with vinegar, green and dried pork sauces for dressing dishes. We ordered beef balls, mushrooms with shrimp dumplings, pork and shrimp dumplings, stuffed lotus leaf and shumai. As well, we requested chili paste and a smokey sauce to dip the beef balls in. Our server donned a red tee shirt with holes and a grim expression when we requested cups of water.

The food is good (Michelin Guide recommended several years running) and cheap ($19 for our spread).
