subway fire, knicks fizzle...

I scored a pair of Knicks tickets this afternoon in the office. One of the big heads sent out a "first reply gets them" email and I pounced...drama arose, a few offers for dinner/drinks were made, one guy even insisted on checking the time of my Outlook sent mail. But these were mine: fair and square.

After work, I met up with Vadim and headed back to my apartment to drop off my MacBook and change into some warmer clothes. We hopped on the downtown bound 1 train and settled in. Suddenly a stream of people entered our car. All quiet, no emotion. Just cramming in slowly, closer, closer. Vadim began to ask, "Why are you coming here? What is happening? What is going on?" No response. He persisted. Finally a man spoke up, "There is a fire, two cars down."

"Somebody push the emergency button."

Nothing came of the emergency button feature, it simply continued to flash. No one picked up. The man began to yell to the people, "Everyone! Email the MTA and complain!" He pulled out a notebook, checked the time on his watch and scribbled something down. The train slowly shuffled to 42nd Street, and released us onto the platform. Smoke and odor filled, a police announcement was made over the intercom. Vadim offered up, "Walk or just ride to 34th?"

"Uhh...we're walking. Come on."

Fire threat aside, we arrived at Madison Square Garden and took our seats. A few brosnakes behind us kept things interesting with colorful remarks in the form of screams. I'll go ahead and keep those specifics to myself, no matter in offending others.

Highlights: (beyond the afore mentioned broksnake dialogue) had to be the male gymnasts and small children "slam dunking" in mini nets....also the constant stream of video camera footage of celebrities in the stands. Chris Rock was the only individual who seemed offended by the whole production. The Cleve took the Knicks down: 107 to 102. I really thought the Knicks would turn it around at the end. The entire game was neck and neck.
