New York magazine reported that we (NYer's that is) are more generous in difficult financial times. Surprised? I'm not. There is a comradeship found in these streets that I haven't encountered elsewhere. Last week I decided to do a few good things that benefited others without putting pressure on my wallet. Here are a few ideas for you to give back...
Get yourself a pair of Summer commuter shoes from Tom's. For every pair you buy, a pair will be donated to someone who needs a pair. The photos from the November 2007 shoe drop are gorgeous!
Make a small donation to one of your friend's fundraisers. My friend Jason pledged to the Passion Plunge, an event that raises money for Massachusetts Special Olympics. This charity is great because it gives you the option to have your employer match your donation with ease.
Another great program I was able to get involved with last Summer: was painting benches in Central Park. It's a perfect event for your company to get into. Think tax-write off. It's about $300 per person for all the supplies, instruction and an afternoon of painting at the park. Check it out at the Volunteers and Charity page on the Central Park website.
