weekend recommendation: Côte Roannaise
I stepped off the train at Union Street to pick up a bottle of wine at Red White & Bubbly, which often does tastings on weekends. This week's featured selection: Domaine Du Pavillon Côte Roannaise (France, 2005).
Self described as a table wine, but to my tongue, hints more on a cheese course wine. Open it and let it breath, it becomes more manageable. Interestingly enough, the grapes are grown in Beaujolais soil, but are quite different in character: plum, cocoa, earthy truffles. I'm not kidding. Really, give it a try. It's budget booze at $13.95.
