hit or miss...usually miss: cafe steinhof
Late nights at Steinhof, brunch- or cocktails- the atmosphere is consistent. Airy, slightly aloof and pushing for some sort of sultry. In the half dozen or so times that I've been to this self proclaimed Austrian comfort food venue, I've only gotten good service once, and I'm reasonably confident in the catalyst being that the transgendered server was intoxicated.
The food is heavy and either too salty or bland. The cocktails seem to be pulled from a recipe book and crafted without inspiration, or care, beyond that. To be fair, I was reasonably satisfied with my Irish Coffee and Celery-Potato soup this afternoon. The coffee has a beautifully shaped layer of homemade whipped cream and the soup had strips of smoked salmon. It could also be that my lips were purple from the over active AC at the theatre. Two and a half hours of Dark Knight in a short skirt and sandals will make anyone appreciate warm comfort food.

If you're hungry the dumplings with wild mushrooms and salad will fill you up- at happy hour share the cheeses and meats plate and dinner try a sausage with a side of spaetzel..but only if you must go to Steinhof.
