thumbs up, thumbs down: cafe noir, spitzers.
I stepped into the warmth of reggae and good company lat night: Cafe Noir. The SoHo spot is a bit unnerving to walk to from the A Train (dark, empty street), but quite redeeming in the lovely comfort that follows. Simple drinks, good people. I'd like to go again. Also: check out their website, there's music too.
(32 Grand).
I hopped into a cab to the Lower East Side's Spitzer's Corner: a grossly crowded mess of girls donning poorly applied, horribly colored lipsticks. My friends were pressed against the wall with slightly jarred faces, sipping one of their forty tap beers. If you are going to take this route: I suggest a large party of friends and snagging one of their long, picnic style tables. There's just no other way. The wooded interior was aesthetically pleasing in a Pacific Northwest sort of way.
(Corner of Rivington and Ludlow).
...We departed soon after for cheap delicious eats and absurd cocktails at the Asian Pub, where we delighted in watching the bouncer check ID's with his cell phone light and turn away muffin tops.
(Cooper Square).
