Cafe Falai: Good Friday Brunch
Enjoying Good Friday off from work, I took lunch with a friend at Cafe Falai. Although the server recommended the pasta dishes, we decided to share a salad and each select one of their baked egg dishes, "what we're known for, " the waitress assured us.
After setting down prosecco and illy coffee, our exceptionally phony server suggested a salad that was no longer on the menu, (oops! nevermind) then nodded when we asked for the Avocado salad with radiccio and truffle oil dressing. A wonderful little dish: clearly fatty, but somehow tasting light.
For our main courses, I requested the Baked Eggs with Sauteed Spinach and Marscapone, he had the Wild Mushrooms. The eggs come in little crock pots with tomato sauce. Decent, definitely not "fantastic"...really more on par with: ordinary. The charm is in the all-white decor and lightly gold chandeliers.
(As well the amusement of watching three servers offer a table bottled water at short intervals between, and when the forth went into offer, the first server grabbing him by the arm and shaking her head...communication, folks).
Also: very clearly child friendly, coke served in little bottles.
After we finished up, we walked towards Union Square, stopping at Sundaes and Cones to sample the Wasabi icecream. Good! A nice little punctuation the the reasonable, but ultimately boring lunch.
