A few months back, a little bird mentioned this budget artisan cheese shop along 3rd Avenue. I considered seeking it out a handful of times-- and one afternoon stumbled upon it. With handwritten signs covering nearly every inch of the glass front, East Village Cheese is filled with nearly 100 types of (absurdly) well-priced cheese, pate/deli meat, an olive bar, condiments, H & H Bagels and breads from Balthazar. Upon entering, you're greeted by two open fridges with $1-2 specials. I selected a hunk of white English Stilton with cranberry ($1), a pound of brie ($1.99) and a cylinder of Vermont cheddar spiked with sage ($1.99).
Win. This is now part of my Union Square shopping missions.
