Habitat 67, Montreal

Imagine floating past Montreal. Habitat 67 appears on the coast. At first glance, it looks as though it belongs in a geologist's hands. A magnified look reveals the mod design of Israeli-Canadian architect Moshe Safdie. The catalyst of the project is part of his 1961 thesis during university. The three clusters are apartment complexes of 600sq foot spaces. Each unit has at least one garden terrace, which rests on the roof of a below unit. The concept of Habitat 67 is to create a community of higher density living that still lends some of the benefits of single family home neighborhoods.
