layers & texture
Images captured in the Gowanus Canal.
A peculiar segment of NYC's most populous Borough, Brooklyn. The oddities of the Gowanus rest around the vacant lots, emptied out factories and that on weekends ( I cannot speak for weekdays) the streets are very nearly devoid of other people.
Apocalyptic is one word that could be used to describe it, although it's clearly still engaged with contemporary society. The Barrack Obama sticker clarifies that- Also peaceful, the streets are wide, there's a wind and minimal sound beyond the F-Train's occasional click and push over the bridge.
There is a tremendous amount of texture and even the grays hint on various takes on color and expression.
Supposedly a Whole Foods is going to be installed in this area, unfortunate? The landscape and contents within it will certainly transform.

But the Gowanus Factories are NOT empty during the work week.
Check out the Gowanus show that opened at the Brooklyn Historical Society on May 8, and runs to Aug 24. You can see some of what goes on in the Gowanus Factories.

I will. It's funny you should mention this, my partner and I discussed playing hooky one day so we could see the "working Gowanus" Although I feel that I may prefer to keep it as it is to me...
